Non-Surgical Chiropractic Treatment of Median Nerve Entrapment

What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (link to National Library of Medicine) is one of the most common and expensive work related injuries. It is estimated that an individual who has carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) can lose about $30,000 in medical bills in addition to time and work.

Diagram of the anatomy of the hand showing a compressed median nerve.A nerve runs down your arm called the median nerve, which starts from your neck and travels down your shoulder, forearm, and into the arm. This nerve goes through a tunnel in your wrist, which is made of bones, muscles, ligaments, nerves, tendons, and ligaments. When this tunnel gets compressed it can cause symptoms such as pain, weakness, and numbness and tingling in your wrist and hand.

Other symptoms may include weakened grip strength, itching tingling in thumb, index, and middle fingers. This compression can occur due to injury to your wrist, poor ergonomics, mechanical problems, or micro-trauma. This can also be brought on my conditions such as: overactive pituitary gland, hypothyroidism, inflammatory arthritis, and diabetes.

At the Elevated Health Center we look at how the nervous system is functioning. If your nervous system is not functioning appropriately, you may be experiencing symptoms similar to that of carpal tunnel syndrome. We will determine if the median nerve is truly affected through a thorough history and a variety of tests.

Treatment may include gentle neck and upper back adjustments, soft tissue mobilization and natural supplementation. In addition, lifestyle modifications may be necessary in order to alleviate and eliminate symptoms without utilizing invasive measures.
