Chiropractic Care for Allergies & Asthma
Helping to reduce or eliminate your symptoms
However, it’s important to remember that chiropractic care addresses problems with the nervous system, which feeds into every other system in your body. That includes your respiratory and immune functions.
Thus, if allergy and asthma problems are driving you insane, we may be able to help. Read on to learn more about the chiropractic approach to respiratory care.
How can chiropractic care help my allergies?
Let’s take a look at the anatomy so you can develop a clearer picture of what chiropractic care is actually capable of accomplishing for you.
First, we look for subluxations in the neck. If your neck vertebrae are out of alignment, then the nerves in your neck are going to become compressed. This leads, in turn, to tight muscles.
Your lymph nodes are a key part of your nervous system, and they are located right in your neck. A tight neck prevents lymph nodes from draining, which means your immune system ceases to function as it should. Allowing those nodes to drain can cause significant improvements in a number of respiratory conditions.
Second, your chest cavity can become compressed if your spine is out of alignment in your upper back. Here, an adjustment simply gives your lungs more space, vastly improving your ability to breathe.
Finally, we look at the phrenic nerve, existing from your 3rd, 4th, or 5th vertebrae. This nerve supplies your diaphragm. Obviously, if the nerve feeding your diaphragm doesn’t work very well then you’re not going to breathe very well!
Can a chiropractor help my child with their allergies or asthma attacks as well?
Absolutely. Children often experience dramatic improvements in their respiratory conditions after receiving asthma and allergy care, just as adults do. We use gentle adjustments with our child clients, and it’s perfectly safe to bring them. Chiropractic care can also help kids with chronic ear infections.
Will chiropractic care replace the medicines I’m using to handle my allergies?
We wouldn’t recommend you throw away your inhaler the moment you meet us, but you may have to use it a lot less even after your very first adjustment. Studies show that chiropractic care does offer significant improvements to allergy symptoms.
By approaching the problem head-on, you are likely to experience greater and more comprehensive relief. After all, those shots, pills, and inhalers haven’t cured your condition yet either, or you wouldn’t be reading this page! They’ve only helped you manage it.
By reducing the number and severity of attacks through chiropractic care you allow yourself to rely on these meds a little less, sparing your system from strain and side effects.
With that being said, some of our patients finish their chiropractic care plans and stop experiencing symptoms altogether! If you’re suffering, why not try a new approach, one that can bring lasting relief?
Where can I find additional evidence for the efficacy of a chiropractic approach to allergies and asthma?
You’ll find a comprehensive list of studies and case studies by clicking here. You’ll find a long list of studies on that site, including studies from The Journal of Pediatric, Maternal, and Family Health; The Journal of the American Osteopathic Association, and The New England Journal of Medicine.
